Niklas Fanelsa is a young architect and founder of Atelier Fanelsa. After beginning work in their office in Kreuzberg, Berlin, they opened a satellite office in Gerswalde, Uckermark, to work locally on projects in the region. We spoke to Niklas about the potential and future of rural areas, new narratives to be written from within, the beauty and essence of crafts and how to learn from the countryside.
We easily found common ground regarding many different topics and it was a pleasure to have such an honest and informative exchange. Gerswalde welcomed us with warm summer vibes at the end of August. After our talk, myriad trees gave way to a beautiful lake, spread out between sandy shores. Many interesting individuals came together in Gerswalde and were thankful to be introduced to this microcosm, so close and yet so far from the city of Berlin.
