We visited Barrault Pressacco in the winter of 2021 in Paris and we have fond memories of the afternoon spent together.
The conversation easily flowed, we visited both floors of the office space in the northern part of Paris and quickly found ourselves among models, collaborators and work in progress. The material bank as a backdrop for our interview was quickly decided upon.
Thibault and Cyril spoke to us about the pitfall of following a mono-material hype, the beauty of using hybrid-materials and about thermal insulators that play a vital role in their thinking and projects. They also shared their love for stones that are sourced with rough edges and soft to the touch - bearing the project in mind, while finding the right fit.
We visited one of their buildings in Paris in the 11th arrondissement, also briefly discussed and shown in the video. The facade is made of load-bearing massive stone and while the front facade sits prominently towards the busy street, the back facade is stepped down to bring the maximum amount of light to all floors. Following a tradition of building with stone in Paris, the house finds a humble and contemporary solution to nestle itself among its long standing neighbors. We are excited to see more of their built work in the future.
